SortalGI is a sortal grammar interpreter developed in the Python programming language, as a library and API. As such, no interface or visualisation is included, though graphical demonstrators are provided (in the gallery section). In addition, the SortalGI library can be accessed from within the Rhino 3D modeling environment (through its API) and is also available as a Rhino/Grasshopper plug-in.

The SortalGI library supports both parametric and non-parametric shape grammars, including line segments, plane segments, points, (non-parametric) circular and elliptical arcs, labels, weights, colors, enumeratives, and (parametric) descriptions, in 2D and 3D. Emergence is naturally supported.

Acknowledgments

The early developments formed part of a research project entitled "Computational support for spatial grammars for urban and architectural design" and funded by the Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) Academic Research Fund (AcRF) Tier 1 Start-up Grant.

The SortalGI library is developed by Rudi Stouffs and Bui Do Phuong Tung, the API and plug-in by Rudi Stouffs and Bianchi Dy.
