Serpentine | Index | |
'Serpentine' is a small grammar generating the pattern of the Serpentine Pavilion in London (by Toyo Ito and Cecil Balmond). This example combines non-parametric and parametric-associative rules, as part of the generative process is best captured under a similarity transformation (the iterative rotation and scaling of the square) while extending the sides of each transformed square until the boundary of the original square can only be achieved using a parametric-associative rule. The final result: The six rules (left) and the derivation (right): Considering the six rules denoted r0 through r5 (from bottom to top), the same derivation is shown in more detail here: The relevant Rhino/GH files form part of the SortalGI plug-in.
